It is a while since I ‘blogged’ so please bear with me on this….
The Government remain keen to expand the provision of financial services and consider credit unions to be relatively new at achieving recognition for safe savings, and community engagement. We know credit unions are not new to everyone; Yours has been in operation since 1992. Originally formed to provide savings and loans for local police officers, the Blues and Twos has steadily grown and developed now serving all emergency services and councils within Lancashire and Cumbria, together with those organisations which provide support services for them. Your serving and retired colleagues, working together and their immediate family members are encouraged to join.
With this my first blog of 2020 I am pleased to report on the credit union’s achievements of 2019. By the end of last year Blues and Twos had successfully seen almost 8,500 members become part of the Blues and Twos family, the organisations total assets exceeded £15.4 million and we helped over 1,900 members last year alone with their borrowing needs – £8.4 million in collective lending. I was very proud to be part of the Board’s announcement on the 1.4% dividend return, agreed at the Annual General Meeting and paid to all savers in December. This is the highest dividend in five years and excellent recognition to all savers who regularly support the credit union, many of you saving direct from your pay or pension on payday. The dividend announcement was followed by a Board decision to increase the maximum deposit per month from £500 to £750 per member.
Credit Unions were once known as the poor man’s bank but when you compare the services of developed credit unions you can see this is no longer the case. Recognised by the Association of British Credit Unions (ABCUL) Blues and Twos is within the top twenty in the UK, with dividends competitive and lending rates competing well with the banks. Members must be proud to be a part of this. “There has never been a better time to introduce your colleagues and friends encouraging them to save what they can every month. Saving regularly is the best ‘help’ you can give to financial well-being.” The Blues and Twos not only offers competitive returns year-on-year we also give full flexibility on your funds – that’s ‘No tie-in’ or “Lock it away” yet we offer you savings returns that are similar if not better than the best offered by some of the UK’s banks/building societies. ‘Instant Access because you never know when you might need your funds’.
Traditional and online banking is available with Blues and Twos. Our current team of 9 is soon to be expanding again to ensure there is always a team member here to talk you through your saving or borrowing requirements or please send your enquiries by email or via the website.
Blues & Twos Credit Union is a “not-for-profit” financial co-operative, which is owned entirely by its members who all have a common goal to benefit their community, as well as being run by a trained, professional team. Setting up the policies, compliance and strategic governance is the Board of Directors who draw experience from a variety of business/public sector backgrounds.
The Blues & Twos team offer you affordable credit union loans and ethical savings, which means that you can save as you borrow! With a non-profitable credit union, we put the focus on ensuring that you are always provided with the best service, rather than maximising profits. This way, the credit union is run with the end goal of rewarding the members. Join Blues and Twos today!
